Join the Global Abundance Alliance for an exploration of the Gift Economy, and what wealth and abundance mean outside the context of money. Look into your own relation to giving and receiving! Participate in both a marketplace and a giving-place, and share your ideas and promises in an open discussion, where the participants are the speakers.
This second annual GAA Workshop takes place on Monday, May 19, 2008, following Landmark Education's Conference for Global Transformation (CGT). The site of the workshop, the Mercy Center, is located in Burlingame, California, very close to the CGT location and to San Francisco International Airport.
The idea of giving has received a lot of press lately. Former President Bill Clinton published a book by that title. Lewis Hyde just released the second edition of his classic book, The Gift. The movie Pay It Forward taught us how to shift the world through simple acts of kindness. What goes around comes around.
In a figure-ground image, if the market economy is the figure, the gift economy is the ground, and vice versa. While we focus on one, the other becomes nearly invisible. In this workshop we intend to switch figure and ground and bring the gift economy and its implications, including alternative currencies and our own relationship to giving and receiving, to the foreground. If the market economy is near collapsing, then we need to develop the infrastructure for what will take its place.
To be our Keynote Speaker, we have invited a remarkable man who has dedicated his life to living from the gift economy, to developing Open Money, and to teaching about Collective Intelligence and Wisdom Consciousness. Jean-François Noubel is the founder of TheTransitioner.org, an international think tank and non-profit organization. He has had leadership roles in high-tech companies, including being one of the founders of AOL France. Today Jean-François dedicates his time to giving advanced seminars and retreats for organizations and people willing to become pioneers in Collective Intelligence and Wisdom Consciousness.
